God's Created Order, Intro - Ecclesiastes #2

Ecclesiastes 1:4-7

4 One generation passes away, and another generation comes;
But the earth abides forever.
5 The sun also rises, and the sun goes down,
And hastens to the place where it arose.
6 The wind goes toward the south, And turns around to the north;
The wind whirls about continually, And comes again on its circuit.
7 All the rivers run into the sea, Yet the sea is not full;
To the place from which the rivers come, There they return again.

God’s creation is astonishing! As I write this, I’m looking out the window on a windy and cold day watching what’s left of the largely yellow and brown leaves falling out of the deciduous trees. I’m seeing evergreens hold their color and beauty, the dormant grass outside of a few green patches of weeds (our lawn is far from perfect), and flowering plants also preparing for the long winter. In several months, all this nature will see a new beginning (other than the evergreens, of course); new blades of grass, new leaves, new flowers.

In this passage, we see the cycle of God’s created order: the daily rising and setting of the sun, air currents, the flow and evaporation of water, and cardinal directions. Psalm 19:1-6 gives testimony that God’s creation and order declare His glory, and Romans 1:20 declares that the attributes of the invisible God are clearly seen in what He has created. These truths may not compel us to trust in His grace and plan for salvation, but through these truths we see His existence as the Creator and Designer of our world and the universe.

Whatever beliefs we bring when we view God’s creation, let us be compelled to see the Creator and continue to search His Scripture for what He wants us to know. As we search His Scripture, let us trust in His plan for redemption and eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ! “The earth is the Lord’s” – Psalm 24:1a

In Christ Alone,

Dan
