In the Beginning...Let There Be Inbreeding? (Part 1)
In the Beginning…Let There
Be Inbreeding? – Part 1
Post #4 of the “Eleven Toes” Series
Presuppositions
for this Post and subsequent posts (not being dogmatic in #1-6, just simply for
the purposes of this series):
1.
Every child of Adam and Eve who married and had
children married other sons or daughters of Adam and Eve (therefore, full
siblings).
2.
Every grandchild of Adam and Eve married another
grandchild of Adam and Eve, but not children of one or both parents (therefore,
first cousins and not full or half siblings).
3.
Great-grandchildren of Adam and Eve may have
married other great-grandchildren, or 2nd-great-grandchildren, etc.
4.
Multiple marriages were permissible in this
time, such as marrying after widowhood or perhaps polygamy.
5.
Adam and Eve had a boatload of children.
6.
Adam did not marry any of his daughters,
granddaughters, etc. Not saying it would have been wrong at the time (perhaps
another article), but still my assumption for this article. – Eve, as well,
never married nor had children with any of her descendants.
(Note: not all
these presuppositions are necessary to draw the conclusions in this article.)
7. An
Unapologetic Presupposition: The Bible is completely true, and the accounts and
Biblical personnel in this article were real and literally existed thousands of
years ago.
Genesis 1:26-28
– “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let
them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and
over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that
creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of
God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and
God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and
subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the
air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
A Biblical
Truth: Every single human being that has ever lived on the face of this
Earth at any time is a direct descendant of Adam and Eve. This is also true for
all miscarried or aborted children. Clearly, we also come directly from Noah;
but even if there was no need for a flood (a “reset”), we would still all be
directly descended from Adam and Eve.
Gen.
2 – Adam came from “the dust of the ground,” according to verse 7, as God
“breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
After Adam was given the responsibility to name all the animals, verse 20
described “there was not found an help meet for him.” That is, one suitable to
be a marriage partner. The next verse states God placing him in a deep sleep,
removing one of his ribs, and making “an help meet” for him. (I’ve heard once
that men have one fewer rib than women because of this. If you believe this, I
hate to break it to you, but it’s not true.) The language of verses 23-24
indicate a clear marital relationship. Adam and Eve became husband and wife.
(Also notice that God created them as adults. It’ll never happen again, but how
interesting.)
Did you catch
what I just said – “It’ll never happen again.” As in, God will never create
another human being as an adult ever again. From here on out, we’re created in
the womb of our mothers. The first mother is Eve, and every human from the
second generation on will come from someone who (through the generations) came
from the womb of Eve. That’s you, that’s me, that’s no joke! What’s also no
joke is the absolute need for keeping it all in the family. Which brings us to
the next chapter:
Gen.
3 – Sin comes to the world through the serpent. Mankind would no longer eat of
the Tree of Life, meaning, all human beings will naturally experience death.
However, a beautiful hope comes out of this chapter, with the understanding
that the “Seed” of Eve would crush the head of the serpent (Satan). This verse
(Gen. 3:15), is known as the Protoevangelium, or First Gospel, and the “Seed” (of
course) is Jesus Christ, who (also of course) came from Adam (as well as Eve, Luke
3:23-38). This First Gospel prophesies the death, burial, and resurrection of
Christ, where He gains a full victory over His Adversary, and the last days
where this victory will be fully realized. Here we see another clear need for
close inbreeding in these early generations, for the person of Christ will be sent
forth by God the Father, “born of woman, born under the law” (Galatians 4:4).
The next post
delves into Genesis 4-5—Cain & Abel, and the generations leading to Noah.
Until then…
Questions to
consider:
1.
Presuppositions #1-6 are simply a framework for
this series of posts, but what if they’re not correct (while every human still
came from the line Adam and Eve)? What if Adam married a daughter or
granddaughter? Does that change your view of God’s Word in any reasonable way?
2. Could you see a valid scenario of humans who did not descend from Adam AND Eve?
